Fabulous Farmhouse Holiday Design

Oh, there’s no place like home for the holidays. Here comes another Christmas and your heart may just burst out in song. Though different trends come and go each holiday season, there is something concrete and significant about a Farmhouse Christmas. The smell of sugar cooking. A child singing a beloved tune. A cozy atmosphere to cuddle up to and enjoy movies and memories with the ones you love.

Here are some must-haves for your holiday decor to invite the spirit of Christmas inspired by design.

Lighting

You may be a fan of white/fluorescent light, but save those bulbs for the rest of the year. Warm light creates a tone in the house of comfort. Yellow light tones/fixtures give the illusion of a fire. Fire yields warmth and naturally sets the scene for a warm and welcoming environment.

Wood and Metal Mix

Tin and Metal accents really authenticate the farmhouse look. Setting metal accents on top of wooden fixtures really compliment in the contrast of their colors. Try adding a metal pitcher as a vase for a poinsettia on a wooden table or even decorative trees in recycled metal cans wrapped with burlap.

Even Christmas carols can be hand-drawn on chalk board and put in a metal frame against a wooden shelf for a wondrous look.

Themes

Having a theme makes each room inviting and aesthetically pleasing. Try and keep themes consistent. If you love the look of peppermint print, use it in several pieces around the room to keep the eye noticing the print and continuing the consistent theme. Some fun ideas for room themes are: elves, snow village, Polar Express, gingerbread land, snowy and white, silver and gold, and the lists are truly endless! Check out a great example of a Farmhouse “North Pole” theme here!

Throws/Pillows

Obviously, the winter time is the perfect time to nuzzle up with a warm blanket. Depending on the recurring theme you have in a particular room, throw blankets and pillows are a great way to keep an area comfy and continue a theme. White faux fur blankets are especially warm and definitely deliver on a country feel. Gingham print or plaid are also great candidates for these accents this holiday season.

Oh come all ye Flocked trees

What’s better than snow? Snow in your house of course! Flocked trees are trees given the gift of artificial snow. The best part is the look can be created with genuine or artificial trees. These snow-blown look alikes are the epitome of a charming and enchanting christmas focal point. And if we’re being honest, is it not the most anticipated thing you want to see upon entering the home of a friend/family member? Exactly.
